ABOUT ABOUT

Officially on the 2019 Oscars shortlist, this exquisite tale of noir-style mystery and class warfare from South Korean director Lee Chang-dong (POETRY, SECRET SUNSHINE) is based on a story by Haruki Murakami and stars Steven Yeun (aka Glen from THE WALKING DEAD). "No film this year has so potently evoked the spirit of our slippery, maddening modern moment." - The Progressive

"The most absorbing movie I've seen this year, as well as the most layered and enigmatic." - Los Angeles Times

"One of the most trenchant modern portraits of the ways in which affluence can blacken the soul, and how struggling to attain it can often end in the exact same result." - Consequence of Sound

"A languorous, catlike psychological puzzle from one of the essential international masters." - Chicago Tribune

"Is it a love triangle, a murder mystery or a comment on the human condition? Whatever you call this stunning, slow-build thriller, it sizzles with a cumulative power that will knock the wind out of you." - Rolling Stone

"Lee Chang-dong wins three performances that, in a fairer world, would all be up for big awards." - Vogue

BURNING tells the story of three individuals and a mysterious incident they experience. Aspiring writer and farmer's son Jongsu (Ah-in Yoo) bumps into an old schoolmate he doesn't recognize, Haemi (Jong-seo Jun), and they soon become lovers. Haemi asks Jongsu to take care of her apparently non-existent cat while she leaves on a trip to Africa. When she returns, Haemi introduces Jongsu to Ben (Steven Yeun), a well-off man of leisure she met in the airport, who seems to be as mysteriously interested in Jongsu as he is in Haemi, and has rather strange hobbies... Not Rated. 148 mins.
