ABOUT ABOUT

FREE screening of the new 4K digital restoration supervised by the late director George A. Romero, with a $5 minimum purchase of drinks or food from the bar. Originally released October 1st, 1968, Romero's shoestring-budget masterpiece of social commentary became one of the most influential films of all time. A deceptively simple tale of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse who find themselves fending off a horde of recently dead, flesh-eating ghouls, Romero’s claustrophobic vision of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combined gruesome gore with acute social commentary, and quietly broke ground by casting a black actor (Duane Jones) in its lead role. Stark, haunting, and more relevant than ever, 'Night of the Living Dead' was recently restored by the Museum of Modern Art and The Film Foundation

"This is horror at its most probing, subversive and socially aware, with a truly harrowing ending that reveals the dangers of misdirected fear and prejudice." - Eye For Film

"The immediate, quasi-documentary feel, a result of budgetary constraints, actually served the film's horror, jolting audiences because it all seemed just a little too real." - Village Voice

"There is a resounding lack of sentimentality that cuts through the death and chaos, as a desperate bunch of people fight to stay alive." - BBC

"Gets under your skin and burrows into your blood and psyche."  - Austin Chronicle

"Holds up as a stark, eerie and unrelenting parable of dread. " - Slant
