ABOUT ABOUT

FREE screening with $5 minimum food or drink purchase from the bar, for our "Week of the Living Dead" celebration of the 50th Anniversary of 'Night of the Living Dead!' The second film in the late George A. Romero's social commentary horror trilogy takes on consumerism, with the majority of the action set in a zombie-infested shopping mall ("Why do they come here?" "Some kind of instinct. Memory, of what they used to do. This was an important place in their lives."). Long out of print and not available on major streaming sites, this is considered by many to be the best of the trilogy.

"Romero's apocalyptic vision looks more like prophecy than fiction." - PopMatters

"Dawn of the Dead abandons easy scare tactics in favor of a darkly satirical assault on bourgeois culture, traditional notions of masculinity, and rampant consumerism." - TV Guide

"One of the best horror films ever made -- and, as an inescapable result, one of the most horrifying." - Roger Ebert

"Romero's sensibility approaches the Swiftian in its wit, accuracy, excess, and profound misanthropy." - Chicago Reader

"Cynical, devastating and relentless, director George A Romero's gruelling masterpiece about the American Dream turning into a terrifying nightmare is a brilliant blend of black comedy and hip, if harrowing, carnage." - Radio Times

"Dawn of the Dead's most unsettling aspect is in how it shows us how little we've changed as a culture." - Slant

"As a blend of horror, action, tension, and humour, it stands in a class of its own." - BBC
