ABOUT ABOUT

From acclaimed graphic novelist Dash Shaw, with voice talent from Jason Schwartzman, Maya Rudolph, Reggie Watts, Lena Dunham, and Susan Sarandon. "A deadpan cartoon comedy about a group of bickering students trying to escape their flooding high school, floor by floor. Think The Poseidon Adventure by way of John Hughes, with a dash of Scott Pilgrim." - Austin Chronicle

"Like the best episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the film knows how to wield emotional power, exaggerating the anxieties of its adolescent heroes until they become actual threats to their existence. There's nothing else like it for many fathoms." - NPR

"There’s plenty for people of all walks to love...The film feels like the spirit of a zine come alive, a super-fun, bananas-weird tale about high school friendships and insecurities animated with collage, line art, paint, '60s liquid-light effects, and realistic botanical and animal sketches." - Austin Chronicle

"A delightfully absurd sensibility and a keenly funny understanding of youthful alienation and ambition neurosis... Equal parts John Hughes, Wes Anderson and Irwin Allen." - L.A. Times

"An explosion of awesomeness." - Village Voice

SYNOPSIS: Dash (Jason Schwartzman) and his best friend Assaf (Reggie Watts) are preparing for another year at Tides High School muckraking on behalf of their widely-distributed but little-read school newspaper, edited by their friend Verti (Maya Rudolph). But just when a blossoming relationship between Assaf and Verti threatens to destroy the boys’ friendship, Dash learns of the administration’s cover-up that puts all the students in danger. As disaster erupts and the friends race to escape through the roof of the school, they are joined by a popular know-it- all (Lena Dunham) and a lunch lady (Susan Sarandon) who is much more than meets the eye. Rated PG-13 (for "some images of peril, sexual references and drug material"). 75 mins.
