ABOUT ABOUT

"The ultimate female take-back-the-narrative movie... It's also juicy and fun and was a crowd-pleaser at the Sundance Film Festival premiere — it got the most sustained applause of any movie I saw." -New York Magazine

A dynamic, feminist re-imagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet by a woman director (Claire McCarthy). Ophelia (Daisy Ridley, THE LAST JEDI) takes center stage as Queen Gertrude’s (Naomi Watts) most trusted lady-in-waiting. Beautiful and intelligent, she soon captures the attention of Prince Hamlet (George MacKay) and a forbidden love blossoms. As war brews, lust and betrayal are tearing Elsinore Castle apart from within and Ophelia must decide between her true love or her own life in order to protect a very dangerous secret. PG-13, 114 minutes.

"Brevity is the soul of wit, and sumptuousness the soul of costume drama, which the movie Ophelia quite extravagantly is. The images are gorgeous; the feminism, gratifying." -NPR

"Moving, intoxicating, haunting: the most visually pleasurable film I've seen so far this year." -Arts Fuse

"The type of revisionist story we need right now. Told from a female perspective, and benefiting from a seminal performance by Daisy Ridley, it rewrites history in a more favorable light." -Film Inquiry

"Puts a positive feminist spin on a very familiar story. I’d love to see more classic stories retold from a female perspective like this one, written by women and directed by women." -Film Threat
