Winner of this year's Palme D’Or at Cannes, from Swedish director Ruben Östlund (FORCE MAJEURE) and starring Elisabeth Moss (HANDMAID'S TALE, MADMEN) and Claes Bang. "Navigating the nexus of hype, commerce, ego, and bullshit that drives the modern art scene, The Square is almost too perfect in its cunning simplicity...Rarely are these ideas lampooned so beautifully." - Consequence of Sound
"The Square is darkly amusing, but it’s also bracingly honest in its absurdity, and that’s what kept me coming back to each one of its wonderfully knotty scenarios even months after seeing it." -The Atlantic
"Östlund wraps his withering insights in impeccable farce, and he can execute a gag with steel-trap precision. The museum itself is an absurdist goldmine, facilitating jokes worthy of Jacques Tati." - AV Club
"Affirms that art, this movie very much included, can tell us things about ourselves that we’d prefer not to know." - L.A. Times
"An original, visceral, uncomfortable and essential viewing experience." - Screen Daily
SYNOPSIS: Christian is the respected curator of a contemporary art museum, a divorced but devoted father of two who drives an electric car and supports good causes. His next show is The Square, an installation which invites passersby to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. But sometimes, it is difficult to live up to your own ideals: Christian’s foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into shameful situations. Meanwhile, the museum's PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for The Square. The response is overblown and sends Christian, as well as the museum, into an existential crisis... Not Rated. 142 mins.
